What Are Friends For?

Last night, as I sat in the barn eating fried chicken and watching lost tapes , the telephone rang. When I picked it up, I heard a(n) jumping sound. It was my gay friend Drake. He told me that he couldn't solve the 7 problems that Ms. Ashanti had assigned for homework.

I'm pretty smart in math, so it took me only 5 minutes to figure out the answers. “These problems are easy!” I told him. “Use your Brain or calculator.”

“It's broken!” he said. “I think my kangoroo ran over it.”

“Then you'll just have to use your fingers!” I suggested patiently.

wow!! You're a big help! The next time I need advice, I'll call WACKA FLACKA FLAME,” he shouted.

I don't know why Drake was so mad. Did he want me to give him the answers?

One of the worst climatic events in the history of the United States was the "Dust Bowl" drought which devastated the United States central states region known as the Great Plains. The Dust Bowl all but dried up an already depressed American economy in the 1930's creating millions of dollars in damages. With modern technology, NASA now believes the Jet Stream was partly responsible for this drought.

For eight years dust blew on the southern plains. It came in a yellowish-brown haze from the South and in rolling walls of black from the North. The simplest acts of life — breathing, eating a meal, taking a walk — were no longer simple. Children wore dust masks to and from school, women hung wet sheets over windows in a futile attempt to stop the dirt, farmers watched helplessly as their crops blew away.

The Dust Bowl of the 1930s lasted about a decade. Its primary area of impact was on the southern Plains. The northern Plains were not so badly effected, but nonetheless, the drought, windblown dust and agricultural decline were no strangers to the north. In fact the agricultural devastation helped to lengthen the Depression whose effects were felt worldwide.

An Odd Animal

The puesha-ni is an animal that has brown fur with golden spots on its legs and arms. Its tail is shaped like a(n) curly string which it uses to jump high. An adult puesha-ni may weigh more than 100 pounds and stand over 500 feet high.

The puesha-ni can be found only in india and guyana. Although its favorite food is rice, it also likes to eat meat. If you ever see a puesha-ni, be sure not to ever sing “to be only yours.” That song makes it excited. Instead, give it a few rices and be on your way.
